What would the be without appearances from some of the summer's biggest stars? A lot less interesting, probably.
Thankfully, Wednesday (May 9) MTV announced that the first lineup of presenters would come from four of the season's most anticipated blockbusters, "The Amazing Spider-Man," "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Prometheus" and "Ted."
Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg will all be on hand on Sunday, June 3, to hand out the Golden Popcorn statuettes.
For the 21st edition of the show, the awards are undergoing their biggest shakeup in years. With a new nomination system and new categories like Best Cast, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance and Best On-Screen Transformation, the 2012 MTV Movie Awards promise to be a night to remember.
But not everything has changed. As usual, fans will be able to choose every winner on the big night. Voting in all 12 categories is open through Saturday, June 2, over at MovieAwards.MTV.com. It's up to you to decide who goes onstage to collect their Golden Popcorn.
The night's contenders are some of the year's biggest blockbusters, so competition is sure to be fierce. "The Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids" lead the field with eight nominations apiece, with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" and "21 Jump Street" right behind them with six nods. Could this finally be the year that "Harry Potter" takes home Best Movie, or are the odds in favor of "The Hunger Games"?
The MTV Movie Awards will air live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, on Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

Conrad Murray asks judge for a court-appointed attorney to appeal his involuntary manslaughter conviction.
By Gil Kaufman
<P>Just weeks after being sent to jail for <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">four years</a> following a conviction on a felony involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Michael Jackson</a>, cardiologist Conrad Murray is throwing himself on the mercy of the court.</P><P>The doctor had been slated to earn up to $150,000 a month to act as Jackson's personal physician before the pop icon's death in June 2009 from an overdose of the Murray-administered surgical anesthetic propofol. But on Tuesday <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/conrad_murray_in_shackles_asks/280479" target="_blank"><I>E! News</I></a> reported that Murray filed a <a href="/news/articles/1675343/conrad-murray-conviction-appeal.jhtml">notice of appeal</a> in Los Angeles Superior Court in which he claimed that he is "indigent and respectfully requests the appointment of counsel on appeal."</P><P>Murray, 58, is planning to appeal both his conviction and his sentence, but has not yet filed papers with the California Appeals Court. He had hired two lawyers to handle his manslaughter case, but is now seeking attorneys with appeal experience. One of those former lawyers, J. Michael Flanagan, told E! that he was shocked at how his client is being treated in jail.</P><P>"It is crazy and unbelievable how [the sheriffs] are treating" Murray in jail, said Flanagan, who claimed he waited over an hour to see Murray, who was brought out in handcuffs and leg chains. Flanagan was further shocked to see Murray handcuffed to the table for their meeting, something the lawyer said he'd never seen before in the case of a low-level, non-violent offender.</P><P>Charles Peckham, who is handling civil cases against Murray, told the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/doctor-convicted-in-michael-jacksons-death-seeking-court-paid-attorney-for-appeal/2011/12/13/gIQAHIYGsO_story.html" target="_blank"><I>Associated Press</I></a> that his client is under tight security and isolation that is more intense than other inmates at the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail.</P><P>"Treating him like Hannibal Lecter is offensive," said Peckham. "This man who saved lives made a mistake, and they're going to [make] him pay like a mass-murderer." Sheriff's officials defended the tight security, saying it was for Murray's safety.</p>

Just when "Twilight Saga" fans thought it was over, "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" director Bill Condon has confirmed that the cast will have to head back up to Canada one more time to put the finishing touches on the November release.
Condon took to the movie's official Facebook page on Saturday to confirm that he's hard at work on the final film in the franchise, including a bit more shooting.
"Greetings from Los Angeles, where we're hard at work on 'Breaking Dawn, Part Two.' It's truly crazy to think that it's been a year since we wrapped production in Vancouver, since for those of us in the editing room the work has never stopped.
A film is a lot like a puzzle, with each piece — each shot, no matter how brief — needing to fit exactly with the ones around it," he wrote in the post. "Our 'Part Two' puzzle is finally coming into full view, and in a few weeks we'll be heading back north to pick up some additional shots — the last tiny missing pieces. We're not shooting any new scenes or dialogue, just some technical work with some of our cast and stunt actors."
He added that for the re-shoots, the film's lead couple, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, will be back to help complete the movie. "I am really looking forward to being back on set with some of the friends I've made on my 'Twilight' journey, like the great Guillermo Navarro, our cinematographer, and his crew. And yes, Rob and Kristen will be there too, to pop in those gold contacts one last time. ...
"I'm excited to report that before too long we'll have another trailer for you to decode," he teased. "And wait until you see the first posters — they're unlike any 'Twilight' images you've seen before. And then November 16th will be upon us and the final film will be yours!"

Global Events LLC, company behind last month's 'Michael Forever' concert, reportedly owes thousands to contractors.

<P>The company behind last month's controversial <a href="/news/articles/1672228/michael-jackson-tribute-concert-children.jhtml">Michael Jackson tribute concert</a> has filed for bankruptcy, reportedly due to massive debts owed to contractors who worked on the show. Global Events LLC, the promoters of the "Michael Forever" concert in Wales, have turned their finances over to U.K.-based accounting firm RSM Tenon, according to the Welsh newspaper <a href="http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2011/11/26/jackson-show-organiser-put-into-administration-91466-29844509/" target="_blank"><i>Western Mail</i></a>. Tenon told the paper that they are "currently conducting our initial review of the business," and reports state that Global Events owes "thousands of pounds" to workers, including members of the U.K. broadcasting union Bectu. The "Michael Forever" tribute concert was held on October 8 in Cardiff, Wales, and though the show went on — featuring performances by Christina Aguilera, Jamie Foxx, Cee Lo Green and Ne-Yo — it was beset by difficulties from the onset. The Jackson estate <a href="/news/articles/1669141/michael-jackson-tribute-concert-legal-action.jhtml">expressed their disapproval</a> that they were not consulted over use of Jackson's image, Jackson's brothers Jermaine and Randy called into question the timing of the concert (given the then-ongoing trial of <a href="/news/articles/1675011/conrad-murray-sentencing-today.jhtml">Jackson's former physician, Dr. Conrad Murray</a>), and in the days leading up to the show, announced headliners Kiss were pulled after lead singer Gene Simmons reportedly made <a href="/news/articles/1669141/michael-jackson-tribute-concert-legal-action.jhtml">derogatory comments</a> about the late King of Pop. The Black Eyed Peas and Jennifer Hudson — both of whom were also announced as performers at the show — also pulled out before the gig. Global Events was established in March by producers Michael Henry and Chris Hunt, though according to the <i>Western Mail,</i> both men left the partnership on the day of the concert. When contacted by the newspaper for comment on the company's bankruptcy, Henry said, "All enquires about Global Events should be made [to RSM Tenon]."</p>

<P><b>LOS ANGELES</b> — During the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, <a href="/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a>'s fans have been as much a fixture at the courthouse as the <a href="/news/articles/1675068/conrad-murray-sentencing.jhtml">Jackson family</a>. When <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">Murray was sentenced to four years</a> in jail Tuesday (November 29), MTV News spoke with those loyal fans outside the court to see if the maximum sentence was an apt punishment. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:715142.id:1673923" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "Four years — not enough, but at least something," said one fan, sporting a red jacket in tribute to MJ. "And where I come from, a little something is always better than nothing." One pair of friends might have been wearing matching <i>Thriller</i> T-shirts, but their opinions on Murray's sentence certainly didn't match. "If four years is the maximum and he got the maximum — I know she's not happy, but I'm happy," one of the women said, gesturing to her less-than-pleased companion. "I feel like justice was served and that L.A. can now be proud and stand tall." "It's better than nothing, but it's not even close to justice," said another fan, wearing Jackson's trademark fedora and sequined glove. "Not only was [Murray] negligent; he let the man die. It's unconscionable. He didn't even try. How would a heart doctor not know how to give CPR? It's insane." The cardiologist, who was found guilty of one felony count of involuntary manslaughter November 7, was facing up to four years in state prison in the death of the pop icon, but due to recent changes to alleviate overcrowding in California prisons, the judge in the case said he was unable to send the doctor to state prison for his crime. On top of that, <a href="/news/articles/1675080/conrad-murray-sentence-four-years-experts.jhtml">legal expert Mike Cavalluzzi told MTV News</a> that Murray will likely serve less than half of his four-year sentence. Those legal loopholes concerned a female fan outside the courthouse, but she was also happy that the maximum punishment was doled out. "The only thing I'm worried about now, with the overcrowding of the jails, he might get one year and house arrest," she told MTV News. "I'm just hoping it'll be four years, that's what I'm praying. I'm just glad that justice has been served today, and I'm glad justice can be served to the family and to the fans, and everybody around today will be happy and celebrate that justice has been served. And I'm sure Michael's looking from heaven right now."</p>

'We're creating the Capitol in a real way for fans,' actress tells MTV News.

Elizabeth Banks and Jennifer Lawrence in "The Hunger Games"
Photo: Lionsgate
We've been excited about Elizabeth Banks' role as type-A District 12 escort Effie Trinkett in "The Hunger Games" ever since it was announced. And given her impressive résumé and what we've seen from the early photos of the actress in costume, it seems that Banks is Effie Trinkett.
When MTV News caught up with Banks recently while she was promoting "Man On A Ledge," we asked her about that fancy makeup and her thoughts on Effie being the "official face" of the Capitol Colours nail line.
"It's weird because it's like, 'Is it real?' They are real nail colors, but this whole 'Capitol Colours' thing, I sort of love that we're creating the Capitol in a real way for fans," she said. "I am so nerded out on the whole thing. I'm just so excited about the whole thing and the image is really neat."
Banks went on to say that her time spent in the makeup chair wasn't that extensive, it's just the extreme detail on those fancy fake eyelashes that makes everything look so complicated.
"It was really fun, and the eyelashes, we were all so enamored with them, so I'm really glad there's a great still close-up of that because they actually feature a deer with antlers, and a butterfly has landed on the antler, so you need to look a little bit closer," she advised. "It's a full forest of creatures on my eyes!"
We asked Banks if she's been paying attention to celebs like Kristen Bell who have been campaigning to be a part of the next few films.
"I'm supportive of anyone who's a fan," she said with a smile. "A lot of people don't make it out of The Hunger Games — I hope I'm not surprising anyone. So, every book requires a new set of recruits, so it's going to be really fun to see who ends up in the next edition."
